Interracial Harmony In The South, Volume 1

$1,006.94 CAD

Ora Mae Lewis Interracial Harmony In The South, Volume 1 is a limited edition acrylic on canvas 24" x 19.9 fine art print of the original acrylic on canvas painting. The print is on rolled canvas. Ora Lewis' granddaughter and great granddaughters painted the image. It took 10 years to research and design the painting that was completed on June 2, 2021. This is a painting of Ora Lewis in 1938 desegregating the City of New Orleans at the Eighth National Eucharistic Congress. Millions of people Black and White attended the multi-day event side by side with segregation screens and signs thrown under seats and on the ground in perfect peace. Ora Lewis went on to desegregate the deeply divided parochial schools. It's the first of its kind to ever illustrate Ora Mae Lewis' desegregation of the City of New Orleans beginning in October 1938, over 16 years before The Civil Rights Movement began in 1954.
